A place in the quarter-finals of the Europa League and an Old Firm derby would normally be enough excitement but Rangers fans have something even bigger on the horizon.
With the news that Rangers takeover has a May timeline, new owners the San Francisco 49ers could be in Ibrox before the season is out.
The benefits to this are obvious with the outgoing investors already securing transfer guarantees.
Fears of Rangers being a feeder club have also been eased by Paraag Marathe, the 49ers Enterprises president and Leeds United chairman, and who has brought health insurance tycoon Andrew Cavenagh to the table.
Despite the issues on the field and Celtic’s dominance, Rangers fans have taken great pleasure in taking to social media to wind up their bitter rivals.
Rangers fans react to takeover timeline news
In response to the new timeline being announced, the Light Blues faithful couldn’t help but take a few pot shots across the city.
“This can’t be right. I was again assured by Celtic fans this was off and we were going bust only yesterday,” professed one surprised Bluenose after the financial experts from the east end got all giddy about Rangers borrowing off future transfer payments that are due.
In a similar vein, this fan was also in disbelief, “Can’t be true I read on here that the takeover fell through and we are relying on a bank to see us through until season book sales.”
“Any Celtic fans confirm this?” Questioned another, whilst “Baldy Barry” asked Celtic’s official X account directly if the report was true.
Aside from those enjoying the obvious suffering of those across the city, there were also those who couldn’t wait for a deal to be done.
“Absolutely delighted. It’s happening guys. Roll on the end of May. The tide will turn back in our favour very quickly with the right board in place,” said one optimistic fan, whilst another, who had been panicking, can now breathe a little easier, “Be honest with the news coming out last few days I was getting worried ahaha, but they’ve pulled me back in.”
The “i’s” still need to be dotted and the “t’s” crossed, however, things are clearly moving in the right direction.
The 49ers Enterprises want big clubs, sleeping giants, and the current Rangers owners have taken the club as far as they can.
Everyone is singing off the same song sheet.
It can’t be underestimated how important getting the Rangers takeover agreed before the end of the season is.
Not only will Rangers have a new sporting director, but there will be a new manager in place too.
The decks, like the debts, will be cleared, and those of a green and white persuasion are not taking it well.
