Tottenham Hotspur have plenty of work to do in terms of their squad planning over the coming months, with six of their first-team players out of contract next summer, according to Transfermarkt.
Tottenham’s rebuild
The rebuild at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou is well underway, with the current squad being extremely different to the one the Australian inherited when he arrived last year.
The squad is now one of the youngest in the Premier League and Postecoglou will hope to continue reshaping it over the coming windows as he aims to build a team that can compete on multiple fronts.
Soon-to-be out of contract
One thing that Postecoglou and the Tottenham hierarchy will be wary of is the fact that many of the current group will have to be replaced next summer as they are into the final year of their deals.
According to Transfermarkt, Ben Davies, Sergio Reguilon, Fraser Forster, Alfie Whiteman and Heung-min Son will all see their contracts run out next summer.
The same will be true of Timo Werner, who is only at Spurs on a 12-month loan and will return to RB Leipzig unless a permanent move is triggered.
Son option to extend
The most consequential of those names, by far, is Heung-min Son, but Tottenham will not be sweating over their captain’s future just yet.
That is because the club have the option to trigger a one-year extension in the South Korean’s deal and tie him down until 2026.
It has been reported widely over recent months that the Lilywhites will trigger that option before sitting down with Son regarding a long-term deal (The Athletic).

Lucas Bergvall’s difficult start
It has been a fairly difficult start to life in North London for Lucas Bergvall. After signing for Tottenham back in January, the Swedish starlet had to wait six months to make his big arrival at the club after spending the rest of the 2023/24 campaign with his former club, Djurgardens.
The 18-year-old has made a strong impact behind the scenes at Spurs, though, with Ange Postecoglou and the rest of the coaching staff seemingly very impressed by his talents and efforts in training.
First-team opportunities have been relatively hard to come by for Bergvall, though, with the youngster used sparingly in the Premier League.
He did get a starting spot in the Europa League opener against Qarabag, but was replaced early in the first half after Radu Dragusin‘s red card forced Postecoglou to alter things tactically. Then, when given a place in the starting XI for the next game against Ferencvaros, Bergvall struggled to assert himself and appeared clumsy on the ball.
The teenage talent has made a breakthrough at international level, though, and has now been involved with the Sweden men’s team for the last two sets of games. But, this has come at a cost.
A minor injury for Bergvall
Bergvall was an unused substitute for the 2-2 draw against Slovakia on Friday, and will now be ruled out of the upcoming fixture with Estonia after picking up an injury.
The extent of the issue is unknown at this stage, but the Swedish FA, via FotbollDirekt, announced: “Lucas Bergvall has suffered a minor injury and will not be available for tonight’s game against Estonia in the Nations League. The midfielder has left the men’s national team’s gathering in Estonia to focus on his rehabilitation.”
Tottenham’s injury list is nearly clear
It is a shame for Bergvall to have this setback now, as he was just starting to get his foot in the door at Spurs, but hopefully, it’s only a little knock. It’s also a shame for Spurs, too, with the injury list there just beginning to improve with the imminent recoveries of Heung-min Son, Wilson Odobert, and Richarlison.
