CRYSTAL PALACE TEAMMATES WERE FURIOUS AT EACH OTHER IN THERE EFL CUP CLASH AGAINST QPR

Crystal Palace scraped past QPR and into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup on Tuesday evening.
A first goal in red and blue for Eddie Nketiah set the Eagles on the way to a 2-1 victory at Loftus Road, as a deflected strike from Eberechi Eze cancelled out a stunning equaliser from Sam Field.
However, as Crystal Palace lost control of the Carabao Cup clash during the second half, Jean-Philippe Mateta could be seen growing very frustrated for one particular reason…

Jean-Philippe Mateta upset by lack of support when pressing

• The Frenchman put in a real shift before being replaced by Will Hughes in the 74th minute, but seemingly felt he was not being helped by his teammates when pressing QPR from the front.
  As Mateta put pressure on QPR’s backline, a simple pass went beyond him where – ideally – the likes of Eze or Daichi Kamada would have began to press as well, or already be occupying that gap.However, the ball instead rolled into an ocean of space for QPR to do as they pleased, leaving the £9m man waving his arms around in frustration, demanding his teammates pushed as a unit.Mateta was spot on.
  Oliver Glasner named the same XI who put a lot of effort into clawing back a point in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Leicester City, with the exception of Chris Richards, Kamada and Jefferson Lerma, and it certainly showed as the players seemed to sleepwalk through this Carabao Cup tie at a snail’s pace.
  Fortunately, two moments of quality from Eze and Nketiah ensured we progressed regardless, although Glasner will surely be disappointed by the manner in which his side appeared to take their foot off the gas after going 1-0 up in the 16th minute.
