Anthony Gordon has thanked Newcastle United fans with a gesture after his penalty miss against Everton at Goodison Park, according to Keith Downie.
The Sky Sports journalist posted on X (19 October) that Gordon had put money behind the bar at Newcastle’s Strawberry Pub, showing gratitude for their support of him after the 0-0 draw on 5 October.
Gordon, who left Merseyside in acrimonious circumstances in 2023, saw his first-half spot-kick saved by Jordan Pickford, leaving Goodison Park delighted.

Missing from 12 yards against the team where he made his name meant Gordon was always likely to draw the ire of Toffees fans in the aftermath of Pickford’s superb penalty save.
However, it’s clear that Gordon has rested on the support of his new club and their supporters, following a day to forget on his much-anticipated return to Goodison Park
Had Gordon tucked his penalty away at the Gladwys Street End and deprived Pickford of the hot-tempered game’s big moment, it’s worth questioning how different the mood would have been.
Gordon was understandably pitched as public enemy number one before kick-off, but having missed a chance which could have won the game for Newcastle, Goodison’s mood was one of celebration.
Putting money behind the bar in gratitude to Newcastle fans is indeed a generous gesture from the 23-year-old, and Blues fans will wish he’d shown such a level of courtesy during his time on Merseyside.
Newcastle United still have Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi ‘on their radar’ and could sign him for a reduced price in January, sources at the club have told Football Insider.

Newcastle aren’t putting all their eggs in one basket this time, however, and will explore potential deals for Leicester’s Wout Faes or RB Leipzig’s Castello Lukeba if a move for Guehi doesn’t materialise.

With current first-choice centre-backs Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman ruled out until at least January after suffering devastating ACL injuries in back-to-back games at the end of last season, Newcastle are seriously lacking depth in the position.
Dan Burn and Fabian Schar have been adequate cover, but beyond them, only Sweden international Emil Krafth is the only natural central defender in the squad.
Guehi has played every minute for Crystal Palace so far this season as they sit in 18th with just three points from their opening seven Premier League games.
