New youth player just dropped! Northern Irish Premier League side Glentoran FC announced on their website and social media channels that 16-year-old youth striker George Feeney has officially transferred to Tottenham Hotspur
Unusually, Tottenham have also made this announcement, though in the context of a new promo video on Twitter that introduces a new cohort of U18 players to the club. Feeney is shown right at the end. This is unusual as the club often doesn’t make a huge deal out of the signing of underage players (Lucas Bergvall being the big exception); this is the first time I can remember the club putting together an announcement video for new U18 players, which might speak to how excited they are for this new group.
Feeney is apparently the standout addition to this new academy cohort. I wish I could tell you more about him, but suffice it to say that Spurs are pretty pleased they got him and he had been courted by a number of other clubs. Suffice it to say that it’ll likely be a few years before Feeney or any of the new boys make an impact, but don’t let me stop you from picking your favorite name from the group and hyping them into the stratosphere — that’s part of the fun!
Glentoran teenager George Feeney has formally completed his move to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur.
The 16-year-old striker, son of former Northern Ireland forward Warren Feeney, will link up with Spurs’ under-18 side in north London.
BBC Sport NI reported in November that Brighton, Tottenham, Crystal Palace and West Ham were believed to be interested in Feeney.
He became the youngest ever goalscorer in the Glens’ history in October last year when, as a 15-year-old, he netted in a BetMcLean Cup first round victory against Dollingstown.
Feeney has played underage international football for both Northern Ireland and Wales, where he was born.
Glentoran’s 16-year-old defender Darragh McCann has also completed a Premier League move, joining newly promoted Ipswich Town after signing a three-year deal with the club.

The Belfast Telegraph revealed in May that Tottenham had won the race to sign the highly rated 16-year-old and the deal has now been made official.
Glentoran will receive a substantial fee and potential add-ons as part of the transfer that is a stunning opportunity for the son of former Northern Ireland international and ex-Glens boss Warren Feeney.
Feeney was also a target for a host of top flight English clubs including Brighton, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, West Ham, Everton and Sheffield United but Spurs have got their target.
The talented teenager is relishing this huge step in his promising career as he aims to kick on in north London.
“I chose Tottenham because they produce their players right, they play them up into the 21s and first team, the coaching staff are very good, they are a big club and I felt all of that was important,” Feeney told the Belfast Telegraph.
