Emerson Royal has had his say on a potential departure from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
The Brazilian full-back’s future has been the talk of the town since the end of the season. While he still has two years left on his deal with the North London club, Emerson Royal is not an ideal fit in Ange Postecoglou’s system. As a result, he only got limited minutes last season and has now been linked with a move away from the club.
While the former Barcelona star is currently on holiday in Brazil, he gave an interview to UOL this week where he didn’t shy away from talking about his future.
Emerson Royal said: “I’ve asked my agents not to talk to me about these issues for now because I’m on holiday, I recently got married and I want to enjoy this moment. I’ll have to have a meeting with them in the next few days because it’s a very important decision that I have to make now.”
Emerson was an integral part of Spurs’ first team after joining them from Barcelona in the summer of 2021 but he went down the pecking order after the arrival of Postecoglou. While he was involved in 24 matches and racked up just over 1,300 minutes, the majority of those appearances came because of injuries at the back.
People at the North London club admire his qualities but they are aware of the fact that he doesn’t fit well into the Australian manager’s plans. As a result, they are looking to cash in on him. The player has revealed that he will be meeting with agents in the coming days to discuss his future.
While making a return to the Brazilian national team is Emerson’s top priority, he has left his future at Tottenham up in the air. AC Milan are the ones linked with the 25-year-old and they seem to be his preferred destination at this stage.
United in the market for a new centre-back and the report says they’ve identified Kilman as an alternative for Jarrad Branthwaite as Everton’s demands for the defender are far beyond the Red Devils’ budget.
Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham have also been strongly linked with Kilman in recent months and GMS says the duo are ‘circling’ around the Wolves star, but they now face fresh competition from Man Utd.
Kilman enjoyed a solid season at the back for Wolves, who are now ‘fearful’ that the player could be approached by a number of other sides and consequently have slapped him with a £50 million price tag, as per the report.
They are expected to remain firm in their evaluation, which they believe could persuade the interested parties in ‘turning their attentions elsewhere’ from Kilman, who has been described as an ‘outstanding’ player by ex-teammate Conor Coady.
Manchester United had prioritised Jarrad Branthwaite’s signing but Everton’s asking price of £70 million is deterring them away as they are not expected to be ready to exceed a £45 million spend.
