Rodrigo Bentancur has been slammed for making a highly inappropriate joke in a recent interview, and has apologised to his Tottenham Hotspur teammate, Heung-min Son, for any offence caused by the comments.
Currently back in his homeland for international duty right now, Bentancur took part in a TV broadcast in Uruguay and at one point, he is asked about Heung-min Son and his South Korean cousins during the interview.
In that interview with football programme Por la Camiseta (via New York Times), Bentancur said of his Spurs captain: “Sonny, or a cousin of Sonny, they all look the same.”
Naturally, those comments have not gone down well, with an outraged reaction directed at the Spurs man, particularly towards his club colleague and captain.

Bentancur has since taken to social media to apologise to Son and address the issue at hand, with a post on his Instagram story.
His post read: “Sonny, brother! I apologise to you for what happened, it was just a very bad joke!
“You know that I love you and I would never disrespect you or hurt you or anyone else. I love you brother.”
Heung-min Son has yet to reply
There has been no reaction or comments from Son himself on the matter.
The Spurs squad are set to travel to Japan and South Korea at the end of July through to early August for three pre-season friendlies.

I don’t really know what to say about this situation. It’s crazy that Bentancur even made such a comment, and it’s not really just a bad joke, it’s highly offensive.
I just hope Sonny doesn’t take it to heart or anything, and that the pair are okay whenever they link up for pre-season at Spurs.
