Nottingham Forest have made a number of pundits backtrack on their pre-season predictions this season, as they now sit second in the Premier League table.Of course, no one could have predicted the Reds would be where they are right now, and a big part of their success is down to the adaptability of Nuno Espirito Santo.
Nuno was hailed for his ability to identify a gap in Murillo’s absence against Everton and advise Morgan Gibbs-White to drop in there which worked for the first goal.
However, it’s the fine run of form from one Nottingham Forest player in particular that has led to Gary Lineker offering up an apology.
Gary Lineker shocked at how good Chris Wood actually is
Gary Lineker has already called himself an ‘idiot’ this season for his prediction to see Nottingham Forest get relegated before the season started.
However, he later went on to explain that he only made that prediction due to not wanting his beloved Leicester City to go down.
Speaking on the Rest is Football, Gary Lineker has said that he misjudged how good Chris Wood is and has been mightily impressed by him this season.“I have to say Chris Wood, and I know I’ve not been critical of him in the past but I must say I misjudged the quality of the player. He’s a better footballer than I actually thought he was originally, I don’t mind owning that he’s done really well.
“And again you’re talking about intelligence, he makes the best of his assets with his movement, and he’s he’s you know got a goal and an assist today. Lovely little finish.”
Chris Wood continues to thrive at Nottingham Forest
That’s now 11 goals in the Premier League this season for Chris Wood, which is crazy to think about.
The New Zealand international has developed into one of the most deadly strikers in Europe, and it’s all down to his own hard work.
Of course, his teammates have provided brilliantly for him, but some of the finishes he’s pulled off have been simply magnificent.
For somebody carrying the frame Chris Wood has, to score a cheeky chip like the goal against Everton is absolutely brilliant.
