Tottenham midfielder turns down new contract offer from Spurs as his departure is announced John Wenham reveals Han Willhoft-King turned down a new contract with Tottenham before being released.
Popular Spurs podcast owner Liliywhite Rose has praised the 18-year-old’s courage following his recent decision.
Willhoft-King is one of many players released by Tottenham earlier this month (June 5).
But Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – revealed the north London club do not want to lose the U18 midfielder.
“Willhoft-King was offered a new contract but decided to turn it down,” Wenham said.
This was absolutely the right decision for him.
Tyrese Hall and George Abbott both signed long-term deals and perhaps he feels like there isn’t a similar path available to him.
“He will try his luck elsewhere and good luck to him.
” It was a brave decision, he chose to turn down the contract to try to progress faster elsewhere.
I wish him luck with that.
Ange Postecoglou must secure promotion for Tottenham It will be interesting for supporters to discover that Willhoft-King has rejected a new deal.
The fact that he was offered a contract shows that the club values this player.
However, Willhoft-King himself clearly felt that there were not enough opportunities for him in North London.
This is the question that Ange Postecoglou must try to solve.
When fans read that a player under the age of 18 has been released, they will probably assume that it is the club’s terms.
However, this appears to be a player’s decision and Postecoglou will want to avoid more talented youngsters leaving Hotspur Way.
In other Tottenham news, the club have been tipped to sign Ivan Toney amid a £65m upgrade.
