Oliver Glasner has called for consistency in refereeing decisions after Chris Richards’ red card in Crystal Palace’s goalless draw with Bournemouth on Saturday.
The Cherries started the brighter of the two sides in South London, with Alex Scott and Antonie Semenyo, two players Palace have tracked in the past, both moving the ball well on their route to goal.
Palace were reduced to 10 men just before half-time when Chris Richards was shown a second yellow card for pulling down Justin Kluivert around the halfway line.
The USA centre-back was issued with his marching orders by referee Sam Barrott despite Bournemouth midfielder Scott escaping a red card for a second bookable offence for a foul on Ismaila Sarr 10 minutes before.
Scott was taken off at half-time by Andoni Iraola. Tyler Adams, who was also on a yellow card and on his last foul, was taken off with half an hour to go.
Palace failed to register a shot on target during the game, but considering they had to play 45 minutes with 10 men and had conceded 10 in their last two outings, Glasner seemed pleased with the point.
“We need consistency,” said Glasner.
“It’s either two red cards or no red card. The fourth official told me it was not enough for Scott to be sent off.
“I think that means it’s not enough for Chris Richards to pick up a second yellow. But the referee decided it.
“It makes no sense to talk about it, but we were just talking at half-time about what we have to do in the second half. I was a player for many years, but it’s really difficult to deal with this situation.
“That’s why I’m really pleased with what the players showed today.”
