‘Get them off’… Jamie O’Hara names the three Tottenham players Ange Postecoglou needs to sell in January

Jamie O’Hara has now shared his thoughts on Ange Postecoglou’s future squad planning at Tottenham Hotspur as January now approaches.

Everyone at the club will be aware of just how crucial this window will be for Spurs, a side desperate for signings.

However, it could be equally important that the club are efficient in recycling their playing staff, moving on players from the past.

And to that description, Jamie O’Hara has now delivered three names he thinks Tottenham need to sell, players not benefiting Postecoglou’s squad.

The pundit was speaking on talkSPORT this morning and also had the wage bill in mind.

O’Hara said: “When you lose [Cristian] Romero, [Micky] van de Ven and [James] Maddison all of a sudden you look at it now going…

“[Eric] Dier, [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg – Ben Davies is alright. But Dier has been told he can leave, Hojbjerg has been told he can leave, [Hugo] Lloris has been told he can go.

“So I think you are going to see players leaving. You need to get them off the wage bill as they are earning a few quid and they need to get them off the wage bill.”

Of course, very few Tottenham fans would probably disagree with the merits of Dier, Hojbjerg or Lloris leaving in January.

That being said, it does seem that Spurs are starting to make some progress with those potentially joining the club.

Conor Gallagher is a name often linked with the side since Postecoglou arrived in North London.

And following an update yesterday it seems Spurs may now be getting close to Chelsea’s valuation.

Moreover, Tottenham are also now said to be very close to their first January signing with a £30m defender poised to sign.

If reports are to be believed, things are looking up.

But as O’Hara points out, it’s important that Postecoglou’s Tottenham squad is also trimmed, there’s no benefit to having huge personalities and profiles sat on the sidelines.

All of Dier, Hojbjerg and Lloris can still be huge assets for clubs at the top level, and they’re simply not needed by Spurs.
