Tottenham Hotspur striker Alejo Veliz has been linked with a move back to Argentina to join River Plate on loan until the summer.
Spurs are expected to be active in the January transfer window. All eyes, as always, will be on incomings, but there are a few players who could leave the club as well. Tottenham youngster Veliz is being eyed by a few clubs to sign on loan.
River Plate want to sign Tottenham’s Alejo Veliz on loan
Tottenham signed Alejo Veliz from Argentinian side Rosario Central in the summer for £13 million (BBC).
The 20-year-old was always viewed as one for the future. Alasdair Gold revealed after he signed that Ange Postecoglou made it clearhe is unlikely to get any minutes in the first half of the season.
However, Veliz has made six appearances for Tottenham in the Premier League, but reports have claimed he is disappointed about his lack of game time and would love to leave on loan next month.
Now, journalist Damian Rancez has revealed that Veliz ‘drives everyone crazy’ in Argentina, and he is a target for River Plate to sign on loan in the January transfer window.
He told El Crack Deportivo: “The nine that drives everyone crazy and wants to bring River from England is Véliz.
“They know it’s complicated but they are going to try a loan from Tottenham, where he wants to play to be in the Argentina team.”
A loan move will help Veliz
Alejo Veliz is a player with huge potential.
The ‘dynamite‘ Argentinian is still just 20 years old. He has a lot of talent and the quality to become a real star in the coming years. But, he needs to play games.
Veliz is unlikely to get any significant game time at Tottenham until the end of the season. That is not ideal at all. So, a loan move next month makes a lot of sense.
A return to Argentina may be appealing to Veliz, but we think a move to a European club, where the level of competition is much higher, would be better for him. Serie A side Bologna are said to be interested.
