Heung-min Son draws Manchester City level as he slices a City freekick into his own net, just minutes after he put Spurs in front.
In pure Spurs fashion, the Tottenham Hotspur captain cancelled out his own strike after he shins the ball past his own goalkeeper.
This heavyweight contest is set up perfectly as City dominated the early proceedings before Son’s excellent solo breakaway goal. But now we’re back level pegging again.
Guardiola guarded with thoughts
It’s the first time in more than six years that City have gone three Premier League games without a win.
Their manager Pep Guardiola was reluctant to be drawn on the referee’s decision to stop play for a City free kick when Jack Grealish was clean through on goal.
“I don’t understand the action, but it was a good game,” he told Sky Sports.
“It’s a pity because against a good team and a good manager we created a lot of chances.
“Football is like life. Sometimes you don’t get what you deserve, but congratulations to Spurs and onto the next game.”
Ange admits Spurs were lucky in the first half
Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou admits his team could have been out of sight at half-time.
“It was an entertaining game. We were lucky to be in it at half time. City could have blown us away in that period,” he told Sky Sports.
“Second half we were a lot better and get our reward for that.
“The last three results have masked things. We are down to our bare bones and I’ve asked players to play in positions they’re not familiar with, but City are an unbelievable team and we hung in there.
“We lacked conviction in our football in the first half, but City will do that to you. It’s not easy when you’re out there and facing an unbelievable team but just go out there and believe in yourselves.
“We’ve stuck to our guns but we are not out of it yet and we are still going to be pretty thin leading into January.”
The ref’s error rumbles on
Former Ireland and Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane says there is only one take on the decision to call playback in stoppage time when Grealish was clean through.
“Obviously the referee has had a mistake,” he told Sky Sports. “It’s a poor call, he got it wrong. He played the advantage and then blew the whistle.
Former City defender Micah Richards says the frustrating part was the referee had more time than he gave himself.
“Just leave the play to go on and then you can bring it back if you need to,” Richards said on Sky Sports.
Spurs bookmark their match at the Etihad
The away team opened the scoring in the sixth minute through Son, then equalised in the 90th thanks to Kulusevski.
For City, they could have had six by the break.
Son’s own goal levelled before Foden finished a fantastic move.
The post was struck twice, and Haaland missed two chances he would usually take.
City will fume at the referee’s decision in the dying seconds, at rightly so, but their failure to finish Spurs in the first half has cost them dearly.
Three straight defeats and third place at the end of the weekend – the defending champions are the team playing catch-up this season.
We could have won the game’ Kulusevski
Tottenham’s 90th-minute hero, Kulusevski, says he felt Spurs could have won the game.
“We had the last chance in the last second, but it was an unbelievable performance from us and we have to play like this all season,” he told Sky Sports.
“The second half was unbelievable and it’s too bad we conceded the third goal or we could have won the game.
“We have a lot of things to learn, but if we can learn to get better mentally then we are going to be on top at the end of the season.
“The coach was angry with us at half-time and told us to stop thinking and start playing. That is what we have to do.”
A massive moment and a massive point for Spurs
Three consecutive defeats for Spurs and then a trip to the Etihad.
Trailing at the end, the away team find a 90th-minute equaliser.
It’s three draws on the bounce for City, who finish the day third with Liverpool climbing into second – two points behind Arsenal.
Spurs reclaim fifth from Newcastle but, more than that, they have stopped the rot even with all their absentees.
Haaland storms down the tunnel
The City striker made his feelings known to the referee, Simon Hooper, and anyone else who would listen before storming away.
There are boos at the Etihad for the ref as he leaves the field.
Pep, surprisingly, seems pretty restrained.
It was an extraordinary decision to stop play when Grealish was through.
The ref had waved play on initially, which is the bizarre part.
The ref has had a shocker
Grealish is set through one-on-one by Haaland, but the referee calls playback for a foul on the City striker before he released the pass.
The referee had initially allowed play to go on, but then blew the whistle with Grealish through.
Everyone is in shock, or relieved if you’re associated with Spurs.
