THE SHARPE END: Ange Postecoglou finds a new main man without James Maddison, but Jeremy Doku will make it tough for Pedro Porro to seize mantle

First, Ange Postecoglou lost Harry Kane before a ball was kicked. Then, he lost his new main man James Maddison to injury. Now, he’s turned to a Spaniard flying down the wing.

Losing Maddison left Spurs needing a new way to create their chances. To do this, Postecoglou has passed the mantle to Pedro Porro. So instead of Maddison in the middle, it’s the bombing full-back on whom Spurs are depending in attack.

In the two games since Maddison’s injury, no Spurs player has created as many chances as Porro. He’s taking set-pieces now, too, and has played four times as many passes into the box as any other team-mate.

With Maddison now injured, it is up to Pedro Porro to stop Manchester City on Sunday

Even with Ange’s high line, the last Spurs game against Aston Villa saw Porro’s average position the furthest forward he’s been all season.

That’s going to leave a lot of space behind for City winger Jeremy Doku to exploit on the back of his relentless dribbling against Liverpool.

He was City’s main man, and Ange needs Porro to be his.
