Harry Redknapp admits he’s still not at all convinced by 26-year-old Tottenham player
Harry Redknapp has admitted that he’s never been convinced by Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison after his performance against Fulham.
Redknapp was speaking on TalkSPORT (24/10 8:14am) after a comfortable 2-0 win for Spurs over London rivals Fulham.
Ange Postecoglou wasn’t too happy with his side’s performance and will know they should have won the game by a greater margin.
Fulham even carved out some late chances through Raul Jimenez and Harry Wilson but Marco Silva’s side look desperately short of confidence in front of goal.
James Maddison and Son Heung-min were the unsurprising matchwinners for Spurs.
Both players are arguably in the best form of their careers and have led Tottenham to the top of the Premier League.
However, there are still concerns about Richarlison’s form at Tottenham and Harry Redknapp has admitted he’s never been convinced by the Brazilian.
He’s already matched his tally of goals and assists from last season although that wasn’t the most difficult task.
The 26-year-old was substituted in the closing stages for Brennan Johnson and as the Welshman continues to work towards full fitness, he might now fancy his chances of starting soon.
Redknapp left unconvinced by Tottenham forward Richarlison
Speaking about the £60m attacker, Redknapp said: “I think he’s got a bit to do for me still to convince me.
“To be honest I was like that with him at Everton. There was something about him that didn’t endear him to me that much.
“Listen, if they feel they need to bring someone in on that side and they’ll be looking then they’ll go out and do that.
“Hopefully, he’s turned the corner, he needs a goal or two doesn’t he really? His confidence is key, if you haven’t got the confidence it’s an impossible game.”
Richardson domestic form appears to be affecting his performances for Brazil which will be a concern as they continue their campaign to quality for the next World Cup.
Redknapp’s thought may be echoed by some Tottenham fans but the crowd loved how much effort Richarlison was putting in last night.
It appeared as though he had recognised things weren’t going right for him in front of goal and so instead decided to run himself into the ground, closing down Fulham’s defenders.
That was ultimately how Spurs scored both their goals with Richarlison earning an assist for the first, but he will know his place in the side is now under threat.
