CHRIS SUTTON NOW FEARS FOR TOTTENHAM PLAYER’S FUTURE AFTER POSTECOGLOU DECISION
Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton fears for Eric Dier’s future at Tottenham Hotspur following the arrival of new manager Ange Postecoglou.
The Tottenham boss decided to omit Eric Dier from his squad for the 2-2 draw against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium last weekend, and Sutton now thinks it’ll be interesting to see what happens with the central defender.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Sutton said: “Interesting Eric Dier was left out of the squad. It’ll be interesting whether he has a future under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.”
Dier is into the final year of his Spurs contract and has been linked with a move away from north London.
In June, 90min reported that Tottenham were open to offers for both the 29-year-old and his team-mate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Eric Dier could be a good signing for another Premier League club
While Dier may not be a key player for Tottenham right now, he could still end up being a great acquisition for another side in the Premier League.
He is an England international with plenty of experience in the division. The former Sporting Lisbon man is also quite a versatile footballer, able to play in central defence and midfield.
The 2023/24 season has only just started. Dier could find his way back into the team, with Postecoglou claiming that the player is still in his plans.
“Eric is part of this team,” the ex-Celtic boss was quoted as saying by BBC Sport. “He’s working hard in training and is available for selection.”
However, if that does not turn out to be the case and Dier is forced out of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium before the transfer window closes, then he could be a great opportunity for Premier League clubs to explore.
Spurs should not be too quick to get rid of Dier but, with his contract running down and Postecoglou excluding him from the Brentford game, it would not be a surprise if they did.
