Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is now reportedly considering a bid for Manchester United target and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.
The Sun have reported that Manchester City are competing with Manchester United for the signing of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong in the summer transfer window.
De Jong has been a long-term target for United, with manager Erik ten Hag personally keen on bringing the midfielder to Old Trafford.
The Guardian reported in March that the Red Devils want to sign De Jong in the summer of 2023.
The Sun have claimed that City manager Pep Guardiola wants to bring in a replacement for Ilkay Gundogan and is considering making a bid for the £400,000-a-week De Jong.
Could Manchester City beat Manchester United to Frenkie de Jong signing?
In our opinion, Manchester City could be able to sign Frenkie de Jong ahead of Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
While there is interest from United in the Dutchman, there are no concrete reports that the Red Devils are planning to make a bid for him.
The Sun have claimed that De Jong is in no rush to leave Barcelona, so it is not as if he is going to push for a move to United after a potential transfer to Old Trafford last summer did not happen.
City won the Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League last season and are hugely appealing to any footballer.
Working with Guardiola would be a real pull as well for De Jong, who could prefer to move to City to a transfer to United.
