Graeme Bailey has named Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha as a player Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea should be trying to sign this summer.
Despite boasting a central midfield roster of Rodrigo Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Yves Bissouma, Oliver Skipp, and Pape Matar Sarr, Tottenham struggled in the middle of the park last season as injury hit the squad.
It remains to be seen which players will come and go this summer as Ange Postecoglou looks to reshape the Spurs squad to his liking. There is expected to be something of an exodus when it comes to players leaving the club before the new season begins (Telegraph).
According to Peter O’Rourke for Football Insider, adding a new central midfielder is seen as one of the top priorities for Postecoglou in his first transfer window with the Lilywhites.
Spurs have previously been linked with Fulham star Joao Palhinha and were reportedly told they would have to pay around £50 million to acquire his services (Football Insider).
Tottenham should be chasing Joao Palhinha
Speaking on the Chasing Green Arrows Podcast, Graeme Bailey has been discussing the quality of Palhinha and expressed his surprise that more teams are not looking at signing the Fulham player this summer.
The journalist has seemingly encouraged both Tottenham and Chelsea to consider a move for the 27-year-old.
He said: “I’m surprised Tottenham haven’t been there, and I’m surprised that Chelsea aren’t in for him as well.
“Palhinha and Caicedo would be outstanding business for Chelsea, and I can’t believe he’s not getting more love out there.”
Palhinha is a quality midfielder who would not look out of place at any of the top clubs in England.
The only problem is, I can’t imagine Fulham making things easy for any club hoping to steal him away from them. I think he will stay with Fulham this season, and maybe move on next summer.
